Wallace to Take Over Helm of Saints Men's Soccer Program
ST. LOUIS-Maryville University has named Todd Wallace as the new head coach of the men's soccer program; the announcement came this afternoon, Monday, March 10, from director of athletics, Tony Duckworth.
Wallace is the fifth head coach in the program's history and takes over a squad that went 6-12 this past Fall. The Saints also posted a 6-3 record in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) and qualified for the Conference post-season tournament.
"Todd Wallace embodies the characteristics I expect from our head coaches â€" quality person, commitment to Maryville, understanding of the balance between athletics and academics, mentor to our student-athletes, tireless recruiter, a desire to be on the cutting edge of his craft and a commitment to having a winning program," said Duckworth. "In short, Todd has a great future ahead of him in intercollegiate athletics."
Wallace is no stranger to the Saints soccer program, having spent the past four seasons as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's squads. He is also familiar with soccer throughout St. Louis, after playing for Bill Daues at The Whitfield School, where he helped lead the Warriors to the state championship game in 1999.
"Todd is one of the finest young soccer coaches in the St. Louis Area," commented Daues. "He is passionate about soccer and will bring that passion to the Maryville men's team. His ability to relate his training methods and ideas to the players will allow the team to make constant improvement during the season. He would be an asset to any coaching staff and Maryville University will only benefit from having Todd lead their men's soccer team into the future."
After completing his own collegiate playing career at NCAA Division I Loyola University-Chicago, Wallace jumped right back into the soccer scene by joining the Saints staff in 2004. He has also served as a state coach for the Missouri Olympic Development Program (ODP), recently completed his USSF National "B" Coaching License requirements and will continue to serve as the Saints Summer Camp Coordinator.
Wallace, who received his Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Loyola-Chicago, is a native of Des Peres, Mo., and currently lives in South St. Louis City with his wife, Suzanne.
